About Drs. Hawkins & Prull
Chuck Hawkins, D.V.M., Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist
Dr. Hawkins graduated from Purdue University. After proudly serving as a veterinarian in the United States Army, he brought his family to Portland.
With the help of his family and friends, he built Dogwood Pet Hospital (literally–with hammer, saw, and tape measurer). In 1978, Dr. Hawkins opened his hospital and has created a loving, compassionate, and dedicated practice over the last 30 years. Not only does he create a bond with his patients, he also deeply cares about his clients and their families. Many of our clients have trusted Dr. Hawkins’ veterinary care and expertise for decades. Time and time again, Dr. Hawkins has been described by both clients and staff as passionate, caring, inspiring, and dynamic. Read more>>
Realizing a need to go beyond the conventional approach of veterinary medicine, Dr. Hawkins developed an interest in holistic veterinary care (treating your whole pet, not just the specific problem) with a combination of Western medicine, Chinese medicine, nutrition, and herbal therapies. He received acupuncture training through a five-month course by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.
During his career, he has continually given back to the community in which he loves. He has served as a Boy Scout Leader, an active church leader, on several city and county committees, and is current President-Elect of Gresham Rotary. In addition to his formal community service, he has been routinely known for the first one to lend a hand by helping his staff and their families, neighbors, family & friends.
When Dr. Hawkins is not at Dogwood Pet Hospital, he enjoys woodworking and home projects with his wife, Sandi, hiking (ask about his mountain climbs), long-distance bicycling (literally hundreds of miles), and spending time with his loved ones including Stardust and Flicka, as seen in his picture.

Prior to joining Dogwood Pet Hospital in 2005, Dr. Prull completed a wildlife rehabilitation internship, which ignited her passion for helping small pets. Her love and compassion encompasses ALL animals from guinea pigs and flying squirrels to parakeets and iguanas. Upon meeting Dr. Prull, you will immediately notice her sincere, caring, dedicated, and professional demeanor. Our clients love her ability to clearly communicate what’s wrong with their pet and her willingness to create and discuss the best treatment plan.
At home, Dr. Prull enjoys running (ask her about her numerous races!), mosaics, tending her urban garden, and spending time with her newest edition to the family, Goblin, a mixed breed little dog with a spunky curly tail. Dr Prull is also a dedicated volunteer with the PAW group, where she gives her time to examine and vaccinate the pets of Portland’s homeless population.
